Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the broad topic and mention several countries and years, but the main features are not reported accurately or clearly enough. For example, Malaysia is described as rising from 30% to 90%, whereas the chart shows about 84% in 2040. Indonesia did not start at 30% in 1970; it began at about 14%, and its rise to around 52% was gradual rather than a sudden “skyrocket.” The overview also says all three countries were between 40% and 50% in 2040, although Malaysia and Indonesia were both above 60%. To improve, give a clear overview of the contrasting trends and select a few accurate comparisons, especially the high projected figures for Malaysia and Indonesia and Thailand’s lower level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is an attempt to organise the response into an introduction, an overview and further details, and time markers such as “by 2040” and “in the year 1990” help signal chronology. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several comparisons are combined in long, loosely connected sentences. The final paragraph moves from Indonesia to the Philippines and then Thailand without a clear organising principle, while “then it plummeted” has an unclear reference. Linking words such as “but” and “by contrast” are used, but the relationships they introduce are not always logical. Group the countries by trend, use one main comparison per sentence, and make pronoun references explicit to create a clearer sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary for describing change, including “maintained steady growth,” “skyrocket,” “plummeted” and “surged.” This shows some awareness of the language needed for a line graph. However, several choices are inaccurate or awkward in context: “dramatical growth” and “clashed” do not naturally describe changes or lines on a graph, and “bar lines” misidentifies the visual. Spelling errors such as “percantage,” “strated” and “siginfcant” also reduce precision. Aim for accurate, conventional trend language and check spelling carefully. For example, use “rose sharply” for a steep increase and “intersected” when two lines meet; reserve “plummeted” for a very steep fall.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Subject–verb agreement is faulty in “The given lines shows,” and the opening sentence lacks a clear grammatical structure. Articles and sentence boundaries are also problematic, as in “overall , the population growth can see in four countries i.n the year 2040.” Several clauses are joined without clear punctuation, particularly in the final paragraph, making it hard to identify which country or figure each clause refers to. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use full stops to separate comparisons. Check agreement and tense patterns, for example, “the lines show” and “the percentage increased.”
