Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify all four countries and include some relevant figures, such as Malaysia rising from about 30% to over 80% and Indonesia increasing substantially. However, the account is incomplete and several trends are inaccurate: the Philippines reaches its high point around 1990, then falls before recovering, rather than simply fluctuating; Thailand rises gradually after 1990, not only in 2040; and Indonesia’s sharp growth begins well before 2030. There is no clear, accurate overview comparing the countries’ overall trajectories. The response also contains 136 words, below the required 150, which limits the detail provided. Select the main trends accurately and add a concise overview before supporting it with key comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the chart and then discusses the Philippines and Malaysia before moving to Thailand and Indonesia. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and phrases such as “Furthermore” and “when we see” attempt to connect ideas. However, the opening repeats the task instructions rather than establishing a useful overview, and the body does not develop a clear progression of comparisons. Several sentences combine multiple years and trends without clear links, while “overall” is used to introduce country-specific details rather than a summary of the main features. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and grouped comparisons, and connect related trends explicitly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “remain stable,” “increase,” “decrease,” and “rise sharply,” so the reader can generally understand the topic. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate, repetitive, or informal, including “informations,” “summerise,” “quikly,” and “raise sharply.” Phrases such as “in start” and “small rise” are also not natural in this context. These errors make the description less precise, particularly when distinguishing gradual change from sharp growth. Build a wider set of accurate trend expressions and use standard spelling; for example, describe a figure as “climbing steadily” or “peaking before declining.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to describe changes across several time periods, but most sentences rely on simple structures, and attempts to link multiple trends often produce faulty grammar. For example, “in 1980 it will remain stable and in 1990 increase” shifts awkwardly between tenses and omits a subject before “increase.” The sentence beginning “when we see the graph of Indonesia” also lacks consistent tense and clear sentence structure. Punctuation and spacing are frequently inaccurate, as in “2040.Here” and “1970,in 1980.” Use the past tense for historical data and future forms for predictions, and practise complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs. These changes will make your comparisons easier to follow.
