Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the general subject and include an overview that Malaysia rises strongly while the Philippines changes less, but the main features are only partly and sometimes inaccurately reported. For example, Malaysia reaches about 76% in 2020, not 75%, and that figure is incorrectly attributed to Thailand. The statement that the Philippines was highest in 1970 is also inaccurate: it was slightly above Malaysia, but the later figures and overall comparisons need clearer treatment. Your 2040 estimates are broadly close, although Thailand is nearer 50% than 45%. To make the report more complete, select the major trends accurately, compare the countries across the period, and distinguish the historical data from the forecasts.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to historical details and then forecasts. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow, and several ideas are joined without clear relationships, as in “Malaysia has the biggest rise of figurs, the is also Thailand…” The account also shifts between countries and time periods, making comparisons hard to track. Linking phrases such as “by contrast” and “According to what is shown” are attempted, but they do not consistently clarify the logic. Grouping the countries by trend, then using one paragraph for the main historical changes and another for forecasts, would create a clearer sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “percentages,” “population,” “rise,” and “expected,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, form, and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand: “key informations,” “contries,” “figurs,” and “more open with civilization” are not appropriate or clear expressions. Repetition of “figures” and “rise” also limits precision. Aim for accurate, conventional language for describing data, such as “urban population,” “increased,” “remained relatively stable,” and “is projected to reach.” Proofreading spelling and choosing natural collocations would make your comparisons much easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the response includes some recognisable structures, such as “In 2040, the population in cities expected to keep rising.” However, sentence control is inconsistent: missing verbs and articles, faulty agreement, and unclear sentence boundaries occur frequently. For example, “Malaysia will reach the 80%” needs a more complete grammatical construction, while “the figures risen to 75%” has an incorrect verb form. Commas are often used where full stops or clearer clause structures are needed, particularly in the overview. Practise accurate past-tense reporting for earlier years and “is expected/projected to” for forecasts, while building longer sentences around correctly joined clauses.
