Student answer (Band 5.0)

This illustration elucidates the percentage of the residents in four asian nationss living in urban area from 1970 to 2020, with prediction for 2030 to 2040.

It is quite evident from the graph that in 1970, percentage of Malaysia citizens living in urban areas was about 30% and there is substantial expansion in the percentage over the period. this number dropped little bit in 1990 then number surge rapidly over the years. The prediction elucidates that Malaysia urban areas population will be around 80%. The Philippines urban population was around 30% same as the Malaysia, but this number is volatile over the period, there was a slight drop in 1980 then this number inceased and jump in to about 50% of the total population. After that, the number increased continously and in future, this number will remain contant.

Thailand urban areas population was started at around 20% and this number rose over the period but there is a sligh drop in the year 1980 then this number increased significantly. In future there is a prediction that this number will be around 40% doubled the initial percentage. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the topic and describe several broad trends, including Malaysia’s substantial rise and Indonesia’s growth from the lowest starting point. However, the response only partially reports the graph’s main features, and some details are inaccurate or unclear. Malaysia did not fall in 1990: it rose from about 30% in 1970 to roughly 46% in 1990, then continued climbing. The Philippines did not drop in 1980, and its later trend is not accurately summarised as continually increasing or remaining constant. Thailand also rose gradually rather than showing a drop in 1980. The account ends before completing Indonesia’s future trend, and there is no clear overall summary comparing the countries. Select the key contrasts and report them accurately across the full period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is divided into paragraphs and generally groups information by country, which gives the reader some organisation. Basic links such as “However,” “After that,” and “In future” help show contrast or sequence. Nevertheless, there is no clear overall progression from an overview to well-selected comparisons, and the country-by-country descriptions become repetitive. Several references, such as “this number,” are unclear because they could refer to a percentage, a trend, or an urban population. The final paragraph is also unfinished, leaving the Indonesia discussion without a conclusion. A clearer structure would begin with an overview of the strongest and weakest growth, then use two body paragraphs to compare countries and their projected figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to describing trends, including “substantial expansion,” “volatile,” “increased significantly,” and “grew rapidly.” These choices show some willingness to move beyond basic wording. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive: “the number surge rapidly,” “jump in to,” and “urban areas population” are not natural ways to describe the data. “Illustration elucidates” is unnecessarily elaborate, while “number” is repeatedly used where “proportion” or “percentage” would be more precise. Spelling errors such as “nationss,” “inceased,” “continously,” and “contant” are noticeable. Aim for accurate, natural trend language and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use some longer sentences and attempt to connect clauses, for example, “However, this number grew rapidly over the period…” This gives the response more than a sequence of simple statements. However, the range remains limited, and complex sentences are often faulty or difficult to follow. There are recurring problems with articles and sentence structure, as in “percentage of Malaysia citizens” and “Thailand urban areas population was started.” Verb forms and agreement are also inconsistent: “this number surge” and “there was a slight dropped.” Capitalisation and punctuation need attention, particularly the lowercase sentence openings “this” and “in futur,” and several clauses joined without clear punctuation. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and complete, clearly punctuated sentences.
