Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, an increasing number of people are becoming interested in discovering the historical background of their homes and buildings. This growing curiosity can be attributed to several factors, including a desire to understand the past and develop a stronger connection with their properties. There are various ways in which people can investigate the history of their residences.

In my countries, people are very interested to find out about their home town history they usually try to contact their architecture , consult through government documents, museum, or archives that give information regarding the history of the building they live in. With these sources and documents we uncover the historical information of the property as well. for instance, previously our grandparents owned how much property and asset and now what they have. In this way we discovered more networks and relations further that previously we did not knew about them.

Additionaly, people are more curious to know about the past whom the home town is, previous residents etc. this allows them to give deeper knowledge and also give information about their cultural heritage. Another significant advantage is it gave them chance to know more about family background mainly the elderly neighbours, also knew us the hirarchy of family tree which develops deeper connections and networks.

From my prospective, I beleive now internet make things very easier and accessible. Old photograps, online archives and stored documents by using these resources it made life so convienient and fast. By interviewing old people we gather valuable information about property which ultimately causes potential financial benfits.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: the opening identifies reasons such as understanding the past and feeling more connected to a property, while the body mentions archives, government documents, online records and interviews with older people. However, the reasons are not consistently explained, and some examples become unclear or shift away from the history of a particular building. For instance, the discussion of grandparents’ property and assets does not clearly show how this helps establish the building’s history. The response also gives more space to research methods and family connections than to explaining why people are interested. Develop each reason with a direct explanation and a relevant example, and make the link between each research method and the information it can reveal clearer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic paragraph structure, and the response moves from an introduction to research sources, reasons for curiosity and modern methods. Some linking expressions, such as “For instance,” “Additionally” and “From my perspective,” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the overall progression is not always clear: the second paragraph combines contacting an architect, consulting records and discussing family assets, while later paragraphs repeat ideas about family connections and knowledge. References such as “this” and “these resources” do not always make their meaning clear. Organise the body around distinct points—reasons first, then research methods—and use each paragraph to develop one main idea with clear links between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “historical background,” “government documents,” “online archives,” “cultural heritage” and “family tree.” This gives you a workable range for discussing the subject. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unclear, as in “interested to find out,” “consult through government documents,” “the past whom the home town is” and “potential financial benfits.” Spelling errors such as “beleive,” “photograps” and “convienient” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural combinations and precise terms: for example, people can “consult official records” or “trace a building’s previous occupants.” Proofreading for spelling and choosing vocabulary that directly describes buildings and their histories would make your meaning easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including clauses introduced by “which” and “that,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences have faulty structure or verb forms, such as “previously our grandparents owned how much property and asset and now what they have” and “it gave them chance to know more about family background.” The sentence beginning “Old photograps, online archives and stored documents” is a fragment, and “we did not knew” uses an incorrect verb form after “did.” Punctuation and sentence boundaries also need attention, particularly where a full stop is followed by a lowercase “for instance.” Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check tense, articles and verb forms during revision.
