Student answer (Band 6.0)
In some part of the world, a large number of people are becoming interested in finding about the history of the house or building they live in. There are several reasons behind this trend and there are many ways how people can research on this. This essay will discuss both views.
One of the most common reasons why people are becoming interested in founding out about the history of their living houses is people's curiosity. This is because people are often become curious about their traditions, cultures and the living places. As a result, they start to find out about the past history. For example, people who live in a old building often think this building may has any architectural or historical significance. This not only helps fulfill their curiosity but also helps them know the value of their house. Consequently, people may feel more connected to their roots.
Turning to the second question, people can research about their house in several ways. One of the most common ways is they can search old libraries. This is because in the past, people kept all the records in libraries by making documents. Moreover, the can talk to their older relatives and neighbours. This is because they know more about the past. They may know what type of people there lived and what they did in this house. In addition, people can also search for previos land papers and documentation .
In conclusion, finding out about the history of people's living houses or building are becoming the common phenomenon. I believe that it is due to their curiosity. They can find out these information by searching old documentation and talking to their neighbours.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses both questions: it identifies curiosity as a reason and suggests libraries, older relatives, neighbours, and property documents as research sources. The example of someone in an old building wondering about its architectural or historical significance helps illustrate the motivation. However, the reasons are developed less fully than the research methods: curiosity is the only main reason explained, and the discussion could clarify why people today are especially interested, such as renovation plans or concern about a building’s past. The research suggestions are relevant but would benefit from more detail about what records to consult or how to verify information. The conclusion restates the main points, though it does not add further insight.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on reasons, a paragraph on research methods, and a conclusion. The progression from the first question to the second is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Turning to the second question” make the organisation explicit. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical because several sentences repeat “This is because,” and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction and body. Some references are unclear, as in “they know more about the past,” where the reader must infer that “they” means older relatives and neighbours. Grouping related research methods more smoothly and using a wider range of linking and referencing expressions would make the flow more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for explaining the topic, with relevant terms such as “historical significance,” “architectural,” “records,” and “documentation.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the response attempts some topic-specific language. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision: “finding about” should be “finding out about,” “founding out” is an incorrect form, and “previos” is misspelled. Phrases such as “living houses” and “past history” are also unnatural or repetitive. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully; more precise terms for sources, such as property deeds or local archives, would also strengthen the discussion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple sentences and some complex forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “who,” and the meaning is generally clear. However, some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “people are often become curious” should be “people often become curious,” while “this building may has” needs “this building may have.” In “people who live in a old building,” the article should be “an,” and “the history … are becoming” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The sentence “They may know what type of people there lived” also needs a clearer grammatical structure. Review modal verbs, agreement, and article use, while continuing to practise varied sentence patterns.
