Student answer (Band 5.5)

In certain countries, people have become more interested in finding their history of the house or building they live in. This is mainly due to curiosity to know about the past of their house. There are several methods by which people can research the history in the old neighborhood, online archives and from a government office.

The main reason people are becoming interested in knowing about their history of their house is curiosity. There are many reasons people want to know about their houses because people have to check whether the people who lived there before them are well known and famous. It is a famous person then they will be happy due to the price of house become almost double. People want to find when the house was renovated and maintenance as they were living. People want to find the history of the house before buying to confirm the original document and whether the house is affected by flood and landslide and also there are negative things happen in the past.

There are several methods to investigate the history of houses. First of all, ask the local government when the building was registered and built. People can also searched in the website of government and also in the social media groups where many people have uploaded the house image. They can also find information in the old newspapers and also ask from long term residents about the person who lived before them. You can also find old documents from the department of housing because they show who built the house and how old the house.

In conclusion, this is mainly due to curiosity to know about the history of the house. There are several methods by which people can do research by asking neighbors, using online websites and consulting local government.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the task: curiosity and practical concerns are given as reasons, and you suggest researching through government records, online sources, newspapers, and long-term residents. The examples about checking whether a property was affected by floods or landslides and confirming documents are relevant. However, some ideas are less fully explained than others. For instance, the possible increase in a house’s value if a famous person lived there is mentioned, but the link to why this motivates research could be clearer. The reasons also overlap around curiosity, and the response would be stronger if it explained more directly why interest in building history is increasing in some countries, rather than focusing mainly on individual buyers’ concerns.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for reasons and research methods, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “First of all” and “also” help readers follow the list of research options. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, particularly through repeated use of “People want to” and “They can also.” Some references are unclear: “they” in “they will be happy” could refer to the people or the house, and “as they were living” does not clearly identify who is living there. The conclusion repeats the introduction rather than drawing together the main reasons and methods. Use clearer links between ideas and vary how you introduce supporting points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “online archives,” “local government,” “old newspapers,” and “long-term residents.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “renovated,” “registered,” and “original document.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “finding their history of the house,” “the price of house become almost double,” and “negative things happen in the past.” Repetition of “house,” “people,” and “find” also limits flexibility. Aim for more precise phrases such as “trace a property’s history,” “increase the property’s value,” and “past incidents,” while checking that nouns and verbs combine naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “because” and “whether,” and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “people can also searched” should use a base verb after “can,” while “the price of house become” has problems with the article and verb agreement. The sentence beginning “It is a famous person then” is also structurally incomplete, and “People want to find when the house was renovated and maintenance” does not form a clear grammatical pattern. Practise building accurate sentences with subordinate clauses and check each sentence for a clear subject, verb, and complete structure.
