Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response gives several possible reasons for interest in historic buildings, including their beauty, cultural value, and what they reveal about past ways of life. The Taj Mahal and Lahore mosque are relevant examples, but the discussion is repetitive and some claims, such as people searching religious sites to learn how people “loved with Islam,” are unclear. Most importantly, the second part of the task—how people can research the history of their own home or building—is not answered. The response therefore addresses the topic only minimally rather than explaining both questions. To improve, give specific research methods, such as checking property records, consulting local archives, speaking with previous owners or neighbours, and using historical maps, then explain each briefly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is some basic grouping of ideas: the opening introduces the topic, and later paragraphs discuss cultural interest and examples. However, the response does not develop in a clear sequence from reasons to research methods, and the final sentence about European buildings does not provide a conclusion or connect clearly to the task. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “These are the reasons” are used, but they do not create a coherent progression; “Moreover” also introduces a repeated point about beauty. Several sentences are difficult to follow because their relationships are unclear. Organise the essay into a clear introduction, a paragraph explaining reasons, a paragraph on practical research methods, and a brief conclusion, using references that make each point’s connection explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses a basic range of topic-related vocabulary, including “culture,” “religious places,” “glorious,” and “living method,” and the examples show an attempt to discuss historical buildings. However, vocabulary is often repetitive, especially “old places,” “beautiful,” and “impressive,” and several inaccurate choices make meaning difficult to understand. For example, “taking interested” and “the glorious of that time” are not natural expressions, while “strange” appears to be an incorrect word for the Taj Mahal. Spelling errors such as “oled,” “knowldge,” and “buidlings” are also noticeable. Build a more precise vocabulary set for historical research and architecture, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing relies mainly on short, simple statements, with only limited attempts to connect ideas in longer sentences. Frequent errors in sentence formation and verb patterns sometimes obscure meaning. For instance, “the majority of the people, where they are living, taking interested” lacks a correctly formed main verb, and “Many people interested” is missing a verb. There are also problems with agreement and articles, as in “The old places depicts,” and with sentence boundaries and capitalization, such as “one is the best examples.” These errors make the response difficult to read in places. Practise forming complete subject–verb sentences first, then add controlled complex structures using “because,” “which,” and “that.”
