Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in building history and methods for researching it. However, the development of ideas is limited. The reasons provided, such as 'curiosity' and 'lack of information', are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. The methods suggested, such as 'communicating with neighbourhood' and 'searching old memorial evidence', are relevant but described in a vague manner. The essay would benefit from more specific examples or a more logical expansion of the points raised. The position is clear, but the overall development is basic, which limits the score to a 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To elaborate with' and 'To initiate with'. There are also issues with referencing; for example, the phrase 'This this all are the way' is repetitive and unclear. While there is an attempt at logical progression, the transitions between sentences are sometimes abrupt or confusing, which hinders the flow of ideas. The paragraphing is present but the internal cohesion within paragraphs needs significant improvement to reach a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'implify' (likely meant 'employ' or 'apply'), 'proponates' (not a standard term in this context), and 'ensisters' (likely meant 'ancestors'). The student attempts to use more complex vocabulary, but these attempts often result in incorrect collocations or non-existent words. While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of precision and the frequent errors in word formation and spelling prevent the response from achieving a higher score. A wider range of accurate vocabulary is needed.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('history play the crucial role'), article usage, and sentence fragments ('In this essay will discuss...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be distracting and indicate a lack of control over complex structures. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips.
