Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for researching building history and methods for doing so. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention security and superstitions, the explanation remains superficial. For example, the point about 'evil spirits' is introduced but not fully explored in the context of modern housing research. The suggestions for how to research (police stations, real estate agents) are relevant but lack depth. To achieve a higher band, you should provide more detailed examples or logical expansions for each point to ensure the response is fully developed rather than just listing ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'in addition' and 'furthermore' are used, but the logical flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track the subject matter. Improving the variety and precision of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'information', 'house', and 'people', which are repeated frequently. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'enrolled their house' and 'path way'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary (e.g., 'provenance', 'architectural heritage', 'due diligence') limits the score. To improve, focus on learning collocations and synonyms to avoid repetition and add nuance to your arguments.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('people wants', 'people needs'), incorrect verb forms ('people are more likely to figuring out'), and punctuation errors. Some sentences are run-on or lack necessary articles, which occasionally impedes the flow of reading. While the meaning is usually understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents a higher score. You should focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that verb tenses are used consistently throughout your writing.
