Student answer (Band 7.0)
Over the years, individuals have been moving houses more frequently than in the past. This has made them curious about the space they own/rent.
In some countries, researching the history about a house is common for many superstitious beliefs. For example, in India, people belive that the home they choose to live in should not have any deaths as the soul of the dead lingers around their home. A common way to research about the home is through neighbours and previous occupants.
Other western countries are interested in the history of the house to understand the space, the aura and the environment as a home should always bring positive energy. It is extremely common nowadays to bring in spiritual and energy readers to understand the environment of a house.
People are also interested in the history of a house or building for more practical reasons, such as issues with water logging or incase of sewage smells. The best way to find out any history of a place is through neighbours, past owners/tenants and nearby shops/cafes.
The internet is also useful to understand the history as there are many platforms that provide genuine reviews and reasons from trusted individuals.
A friend of mine purchased a home near sewage treatment plant that only operated during the work week. She went for showings during the weekends only and only after moving in is when she noticed the terrible smell. Upon checking with her neighbours, they informed her about the sewage treatment plant that was nearby which functions during the work week.
Therefore, doing adequate research and understanding the history of a house/building is extremely important as that space becomes one's home.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for interest in building history and methods for research. The ideas are relevant, such as cultural/superstitious beliefs and practical concerns like sewage or water issues. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The explanation of 'western countries' is a bit vague, and the transition between paragraphs is slightly abrupt. While the personal example about the sewage plant is effective, the essay would benefit from a more formal structure and a clearer introduction and conclusion to fully develop the arguments. Overall, it covers the requirements well but lacks the depth of analysis expected for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a distinct theme (superstition, practical reasons, and research methods). The use of cohesive devices is present, such as 'For example', 'Other western countries', and 'Therefore'. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the paragraph on spiritual readers and the subsequent paragraph on practical reasons could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas, which helps the reader follow the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'previous occupants', 'water logging', and 'sewage treatment plant'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'researching the history about a house' (should be 'researching the history of a house') and 'in case of sewage smells'. The language is functional rather than sophisticated, and the repetition of 'history of the house' suggests a need for a broader range of synonyms to improve stylistic variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'people belive' (spelling), 'only after moving in is when she noticed' (awkward syntax), and 'near sewage treatment plant' (missing article). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The punctuation is generally correct, but the control over complex sentence construction is inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions in more complex sentence patterns.
