Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the trend and methods of research. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For example, the explanation regarding 'redecorating' and 'forefathers' is a bit tangential and does not fully explain why people are interested in the history of the building itself. The research methods mentioned are limited to 'journals' and 'elderly people,' which could have been expanded with more concrete examples like public archives, land registries, or digital databases. To reach a higher band, ensure that each reason is clearly linked to the prompt and supported by more specific, logical examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a general progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'And' to start sentences. Referencing is sometimes unclear; for instance, in the second paragraph, the transition between 'redecorating' and 'knowing the reason behind dedicated spaces' is abrupt. While the paragraphing is functional, the logical flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that connects back to the main topic.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'finding the history' instead of 'researching the history' and 'lay light on' instead of 'shed light on.' Some word choices are repetitive, such as 'limited' and 'buildings.' To improve, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific collocations related to architecture, historical research, and cultural heritage. Expanding your range to include more sophisticated synonyms will help convey your ideas with greater clarity and impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow, such as 'forefathers who has build' (should be 'have built') and 'will also linked' (should be 'will also be linked'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'during the time of ancestors.' While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
