Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the interest in house history and the methods for researching it. However, the development of these ideas is limited. The reasons provided—personal curiosity and practical/financial factors—are mentioned but not fully explored or supported with specific examples. The methods section is also somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. While the response is on-topic, the ideas remain at a surface level, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should expand on your points with concrete examples or detailed explanations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate (e.g., 'To explicate', 'Those record'). There are also issues with sentence-level cohesion, where the flow between ideas feels disjointed. Paragraphing is present, but the internal logic within paragraphs could be strengthened by using more natural linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track the subject matter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with several spelling errors (e.g., 'MORDEN', 'RECIDENCE', 'BULDING', 'CONSTRUCTIN', 'WITHUTH'). There is an attempt to use some academic vocabulary, but it is often used incorrectly or in an unnatural collocation (e.g., 'TRANFORABLE and true information'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but the frequent errors and lack of precision in word choice indicate a limited range that struggles to express more complex ideas effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement ('This trend is drastically increase'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms ('how the constructin was does'). While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these are often faulty, which can occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with many missing spaces after commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and article usage.
