Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in house history and methods for research. The ideas are relevant, such as 'cultural identity' and 'architectural appreciation' for reasons, and 'local archives' and 'online databases' for methods. However, the development is somewhat superficial. The points are listed rather than fully extended with specific examples or deeper analysis. For instance, while you mention 'personal storytelling,' a brief illustrative example of how this impacts a homeowner would have strengthened the response. To reach a higher band, ensure each main idea is supported by a concrete explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Additionally,' 'Moreover,' and 'Regarding,' which provide a logical flow. However, the use of punctuation is occasionally problematic, such as the comma splice in the introduction ('...live in, there are numerous reasons...'). Furthermore, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and summarizes the points without adding a final cohesive thought. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring sentences are correctly punctuated would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'architectural appreciation,' 'census data,' and 'genealogy sites.' However, there are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'take out information' (instead of 'retrieve' or 'gather') and 'in past who have lived there' (which is grammatically awkward). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to communicate, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on collocations and more sophisticated academic vocabulary would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with sentence boundaries and verb tense consistency. For example, the opening sentence is a run-on, and there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'in the recent decades' should be 'in recent decades'). Some sentences are fragmented or lack proper structure, such as 'that details also not found in official records.' To improve, focus on mastering complex sentence construction and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy.
