Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for interest in building history and the methods for research. However, the development of these ideas is quite superficial. While you list several valid points, such as 'cultural identity' and 'architectural appreciation,' they are presented as brief bullet-point-like lists rather than fully extended arguments. To achieve a higher band, you should select one or two points per paragraph and expand on them with specific examples or logical explanations. For instance, explaining how a specific architectural style reflects a particular era would provide the depth required for a Band 7 or higher.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Additionally,' 'Moreover,' and 'Regarding,' which effectively signal the transition between ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, relying on lists rather than fluid, complex sentences. Furthermore, the concluding paragraph is somewhat repetitive and lacks a strong summary statement. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically connects to the previous one to create a more cohesive narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'craftsmanship,' 'digitized records,' and 'genealogy.' However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'research about the past' (research the past) and 'the architecture of the place' (which is a narrow interpretation of the prompt's 'history of the house'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and avoid repeating the same phrasing. Your current range is sufficient to communicate clearly, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several punctuation errors, such as comma splices in the introduction ('...house they live in, there are numerous reasons...') and the conclusion. Some sentences are fragmented or lack proper grammatical subordination. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these minor errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using full stops to separate independent clauses and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed with accurate conjunctions or relative pronouns.
