Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in building history and methods for research. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. The reasons provided, such as 'connecting with the past' and 'myths', are mentioned but not fully explored or supported with clear examples. The methods for research are listed in a somewhat repetitive, list-like fashion rather than being developed into a cohesive argument. The response is quite brief in its analysis, and the lack of depth prevents it from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should expand on each point with specific explanations or illustrative examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and sometimes mechanical (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Also', 'In conclusion'). There are instances where the connection between sentences is unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between 'myths' and 'theory of houses' is abrupt. The referencing is sometimes confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of the argument. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'fascinating on searching', 'knee on tracking', and 'get knowledge'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. While the essay attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'forefathers' and 'architects', the overall range is limited. To achieve a higher score, you need to focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical context, rather than relying on simple, repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'peoples are', 'there is different myths'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'been research upon'), and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors that make the meaning unclear, such as 'They willing to get know about how this buildings'. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, you should focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that verb tenses are used consistently throughout the text.
