Student answer (Band 6.0)

Over the past few decades, a noticeable shift has taken place in how people relate to the places they live in. Where a house was once viewed primarily as a functional shelter, increasing numbers of homeowners and tenants across many countries now want to know who lived there before them, what the building was originally used for, and how it has changed over time. This growing curiosity is due to combination of psychological, practical, and technological factors, and it has been made far easier to satisfy thanks to the digitisation of records and the popularity of media dedicated to the subject. People want to know what were there where they are living and how that place was before when they were not living in that house or apartment. If something happend specifically, people wanted to know as they living in that place. People can research on this by asking to elder people living in that area. Elser people living since decades can tell much about the surroundings. They can search on internet and maybe they find something interesting. People can also try to find older things there and try to understand how things were there before and guess what happend in past centuries or decades.

According to my own experience when we moved to the current house we found a safe there where some special things were found and we were really interested to know what is in the safe before opening it. It was a really amazing experience of my life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the interest in history and suggesting research methods. However, the development is quite limited. The reasons provided are somewhat repetitive and lack depth, while the research methods are described in a very simplistic manner. For instance, the suggestion to 'search on internet' is vague. The personal example provided is relevant but occupies a significant portion of the text, which detracts from a more academic exploration of the topic. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why'—such as the desire for a sense of belonging or the preservation of cultural heritage—and provide more structured, detailed research strategies.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay lacks a clear structure, with only two paragraphs, one of which is a very brief personal anecdote. There is a lack of logical progression between ideas; the transition from the general reasons to the research methods is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used in a very basic and repetitive way (e.g., 'People can... People can...'). The paragraphing is insufficient, as the personal experience should ideally be integrated into the main body or omitted in favor of a more balanced discussion. Improving the use of linking words and organizing the essay into a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion would significantly enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'people want to know' and 'how things were there before' are used frequently. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or precise collocations. While the meaning is clear, the range is limited, which prevents the essay from demonstrating the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, you should incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to history, architecture, and research, such as 'genealogical records,' 'architectural heritage,' or 'archival documentation,' rather than relying on simple, everyday language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'due to combination of' (missing article), 'what were there' (incorrect word order), and 'asking to elder people' (incorrect preposition). Additionally, there are spelling errors like 'Elser' instead of 'Elder' and 'happend' instead of 'happened'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to lower the score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct preposition usage, and proofreading for basic spelling mistakes to improve your accuracy.
