Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for interest in building history and methods for research. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and lack sufficient detail or examples to fully satisfy the requirements of a 250-word essay. The response is also under the minimum word count, which negatively impacts the depth of the argument. While the main points are relevant, they are presented in a list-like fashion rather than being expanded upon with logical explanation or personal experience as requested. To improve, you should aim to provide a more comprehensive discussion for each point, ensuring that your ideas are fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay lacks clear paragraphing, which makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. While there is a basic attempt at logical organization, the transition between the reasons and the research methods is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'in addition' and 'moreover', but they are often applied mechanically or incorrectly. The lack of clear paragraph breaks between the introduction, body, and conclusion significantly hinders the flow of the text. To improve, you should structure your essay into distinct paragraphs for each main idea and use a wider variety of cohesive devices to link your sentences and ideas more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'online achieves' instead of 'online archives' and 'naghbours' (spelling error). The range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little attempt to use less common or more precise academic terminology. To achieve a higher band score, you should focus on expanding your vocabulary to include more topic-specific terms related to history, architecture, and research, and pay closer attention to accurate spelling and word formation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people wanted to know who in this house'), article usage, and sentence structure. The range of grammatical structures is limited, relying mostly on simple sentences with some attempts at complex ones that are often faulty (e.g., 'if they use local government help and online using historical websites will help them'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors in tense and agreement.
