Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest and methods of research. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum requirement, which limits the depth of development. While the ideas presented—such as personal curiosity, safety concerns, and the use of government records—are relevant, they are not sufficiently extended or supported with detailed examples. The conclusion is also quite brief and lacks a summary of the main points. To improve, you should expand on your arguments with specific examples or hypothetical scenarios to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a basic introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the transition between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the lack of length makes the overall structure feel underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect sentences and ideas more fluidly, ensuring that the relationship between your points is explicit.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task and conveys the intended meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'ownership records' and 'building permits'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on fairly common language. There are also a few minor errors, such as the spelling of 'eassay' in the introduction. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and collocations related to history, architecture, and research to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the grammar is generally accurate and communication is not impeded, there are some minor errors, such as missing articles ('the' history) and punctuation issues (missing commas in lists like 'crimes accidents or structural problems'). The sentence variety is sufficient for a basic response, but to achieve a higher score, you should aim for more complex grammatical structures used with greater precision and fewer minor slips.
