Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons (curiosity, historical interest, and the search for hidden valuables) and methods (asking elders, reading local books). However, the development of these ideas is quite limited and lacks depth. The argument regarding British rule in Asia is somewhat tangential and not fully explored in a logical manner. The response lacks a clear, consistent position, and the conclusion is abrupt. To improve, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure your examples are directly relevant to the prompt's core themes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The progression of ideas is often disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and sometimes inaccurately (e.g., 'in addition' is used to start a paragraph that doesn't logically follow the previous one). Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences is mechanical. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'individuals', 'searching', and 'doing this'. There are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'numerous and numerous' and 'old veterans'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. You should aim to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations to express your ideas more effectively and avoid repeating the same words throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence structure. For example, 'what if they are living on a place where British had ruled' is grammatically incorrect and confusing. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. While there is an attempt at complex sentences, they are often faulty, which hinders clarity. Focusing on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like verb tenses and prepositions will help improve your score.
