Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt—reasons and research methods—but the development is insufficient. While you mention curiosity, cultural value, and practical concerns, these points are not fully extended with specific examples or logical depth. The inclusion of 'ghosts' is somewhat tangential and detracts from the academic tone. Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits your ability to fully develop your arguments. To improve, ensure each point is supported by a clear explanation or a concrete example, and aim to meet the word count requirement to allow for a more comprehensive discussion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow is often disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Additionally' and 'In conclusion', the transitions between ideas are sometimes abrupt. The final paragraph is particularly fragmented, with a concluding sentence that feels disconnected from the rest of the text. The use of referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall progression of ideas lacks the sophistication required for a higher band. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus will help create a more logical and coherent structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally functional but limited. You rely on basic phrasing, such as 'finding about' and 'get more interest', which lacks the precision expected at higher levels. There are also instances of word-choice errors, such as 'historical or architectural' (which is incomplete) and 'online database' (which should be plural). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and synonyms. For example, instead of 'finding about', use 'investigating' or 'researching'. Expanding your range of vocabulary will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. There are consistent issues with sentence structure, such as missing articles ('the history'), incorrect verb forms ('interested in finding about'), and punctuation errors (e.g., lowercase letters at the start of sentences). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct subject-verb agreement and proper capitalisation. Additionally, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring they are grammatically accurate.
