Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in house history and methods for research. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the reasons provided focus heavily on 'motivation' and 'traditions' without exploring other potential factors like architectural interest or property value. The initial paragraph contains fragmented, incoherent text that does not contribute to the essay. While the main body paragraphs are relevant, the ideas are not fully extended, and the conclusion is brief. To improve, you should aim to provide more specific examples and ensure each paragraph explores a distinct, well-supported point.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow is often hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. The opening lines are disjointed and lack logical connection to the rest of the text. While cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'In conclusion' are used, they are sometimes applied in a way that feels forced or repetitive. The progression of ideas is present but lacks sophistication, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'They can analyse the material and the related things by their own'. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence flows naturally from the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'get information', 'learn about', and 'make life easier' are used frequently. There is an attempt to use some academic vocabulary, but it is often imprecise or used in incorrect collocations, such as 'manage their critical thinking' or 'make management and predictions'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise synonyms and collocations, such as 'archival research' instead of 'collecting information' or 'ancestral heritage' instead of 'history and traditions'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('life require'), article usage ('the houses history'), and awkward sentence construction ('the reasons to finding out'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency. Increasing the variety of complex structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences more accurately, would also help raise your score.
