Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest and methods for research. However, the development is somewhat limited. The reasons provided—inheritance and avoiding 'myths'—are relevant but could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The methods suggested, such as contacting agencies or previous tenants, are practical but lack detail. The essay ends abruptly, suggesting an incomplete thought at the end of the final paragraph. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with clear, logical explanations and that the response is brought to a complete, cohesive conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'In addition to this', 'Another reason'). There are also issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the run-on sentence in the second paragraph: '...grandchildren, same buildings are managed...'. The final sentence of the essay is incomplete, which disrupts the overall flow and coherence of the conclusion. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences are clearly connected would significantly enhance the logical flow of the writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. Phrases like 'so many persons' and 'make research' are slightly unnatural; 'conduct research' or 'investigate' would be more appropriate. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'buildings' and 'homes'. While the meaning is clear throughout, the lexical range is limited, and there is little evidence of less common or idiomatic vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of synonyms to avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include punctuation issues (e.g., missing spaces after commas and periods), subject-verb agreement errors ('homes... often becomes'), and awkward phrasing ('would be tenant'). The final sentence is a fragment, which is a significant grammatical error. While the errors do not generally impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic punctuation and ensuring that all sentences have a clear subject and verb will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
