Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in house history and methods for research. The ideas are relevant, such as curiosity, sense of belonging, and cultural value. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of 'cultural value' is brief and could be expanded with more specific examples. The research methods are clearly listed, but the supporting details are quite general. To reach a higher band, you should provide more depth in your explanations and ensure that your examples are fully integrated into your arguments rather than just mentioned.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Finally' to guide the reader through the research methods. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the connection between ideas could be smoother. For example, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, and the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and phrases would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'himes' (homes), 'aresedental' (residents), 'sence' (sense), 'beloning' (belonging), 'bulding' (building), 'valuve' (value), and 'thebowner' (the owner). These errors are frequent and occasionally distracting. While you attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'archives', 'historical societies', and 'residential properties', the persistent spelling mistakes and limited range of collocations prevent a higher score. Focus on proofreading your work to eliminate basic spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('every people are'), article usage, and punctuation errors, such as the inconsistent spacing around commas and periods. For instance, 'Now a days' should be 'Nowadays', and 'a hisorical properties' contains both a spelling error and an article error. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over complex structures. You need to focus on basic grammatical accuracy and punctuation rules.
