Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest and methods of research. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of media and the use of technology. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The second paragraph introduces a point about 'greed' and 'landowners' that feels slightly tangential to the main theme of historical interest, shifting the focus toward treasure hunting rather than historical research. While the task is addressed, the depth of analysis could be improved by focusing more on the cultural or personal significance of historical discovery rather than just the financial motivation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Along with this', and 'For instance' are used to connect ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between the idea of historical interest and the specific focus on metal detectors in the third paragraph is slightly abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the conclusion and the body paragraphs could be more tightly integrated to ensure a smoother progression of thought.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate and allows for clear communication. There are attempts to use less common items like 'unveiling the mysteries' and 'technological advancements'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'perform it as an activity' (better: 'pursue it as a hobby') and 'previous record of personal living space' (better: 'historical background of their property'). The repetition of words like 'discovery' and 'objects' suggests a need for a wider range of synonyms to enhance precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'regarding regarding' (repetition), 'if internet is unable' (missing article 'the'), and 'avoiding giving a share' (clunky phrasing). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The control of punctuation is generally good, but the sentence variety could be improved by incorporating more sophisticated subordinate clauses to demonstrate greater grammatical flexibility.
