Student answer (Band 5.5)

Now a days, in some countries there's an increasing number of people who are intrested in fetching the history of their house or building. There are multiple possible reasons for this and number of ways through which people can acheive this specific task.

The number one reason for this factor is the rising curiosity in youth, as the generation of the day wants to know the history and details regarding everything. Our home is the place where we spend most of our times and this is where we feel most secure and comfortable, so this is very normal if someone thinks about the history of their house or the building they are living in. Another reason is the myths related to the origin of a building. No matter if they are true or false, these myths make the individuals even more curious about the history. For instance, there are still some areas in Germany where it is said that the buildings are from world war II era and people always want to know the history about them.

Coming to the ideas about how people can do research regarding history, the most convenient and trust-worthy way from my perspective is the internet. As the world today is a digital hub, everything is present online even if it's about the history, you can just search about a specific area or a building and find out a lot of data about it. Taking as an example, I had a research project where with the help of internet, I find out about the history of a museum which was once a royal palace and was used as a home for decades.

To sum up, I'd say there are number of reasons why one may tend to think about the history of their homes and this can be easily done on your finger tips with the help of mobile phone and internet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest and methods of research. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the 'curiosity of youth' is mentioned as a reason, but it is not explored in depth. The second reason regarding 'myths' is a good point, but the example provided is slightly vague. The research methods section focuses almost exclusively on the internet, which limits the scope of the response. To reach a higher band, you should provide more varied reasons and explore research methods beyond just digital searches, such as local archives, libraries, or speaking with long-term residents.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a clear progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'this' to start sentences. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the transitions between ideas could be smoother to improve the flow. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure feels a bit formulaic. Using a wider variety of linking words and phrases would help to improve the cohesion of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band. There are some awkward collocations, such as 'fetching the history' and 'acheive this specific task', which are not natural in this context. You rely on fairly common vocabulary throughout the essay. To improve, you should aim to use more precise terminology related to historical research and architecture. While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is limited and does not demonstrate a high level of flexibility or stylistic awareness.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'Now a days' (should be 'Nowadays'), 'spend most of our times' (should be 'time'), and 'I find out' (should be 'I found out'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but there are some minor slips. The range of grammatical structures is somewhat limited, and the errors, while not impeding communication, occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
