Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in building history and methods for research. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation regarding 'royal streets' is vague, and the connection between World War II and house history is mentioned but not fully explored. The ideas are relevant but lack depth and specific, well-supported examples. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the points made. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more detailed explanations and concrete, illustrative examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'secondly' and 'furthermore'. Some transitions feel forced, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. For instance, the jump between discussing vintage houses and student projects is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that ideas flow more naturally from one to the next would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'INTRESTED', 'THIER', 'REFERR', 'ADEQUET', 'INFOMATION') and some awkward word choices, such as 'browsing the history' and 'carry on the research'. While the meaning is clear, the vocabulary is somewhat basic and repetitive. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('there are many houses and the buildings... is associated') and incorrect preposition use ('in internet' instead of 'on the internet'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
