Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the interest in building history and methods for research. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. The ideas are presented in a somewhat superficial manner; for instance, the explanation of 'family connection' is vague and lacks a concrete example. Because the response fails to meet the length requirement and lacks sufficient elaboration to fully explore the topic, it falls into the lower band range. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and specific examples to ensure the response is fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is often mechanical. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'To elaborate' and 'For instance', they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a way that feels forced. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Another reason that has been witnessed of this reason is family connection', which is repetitive and lacks logical flow. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus will help improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'masses' instead of 'people', 'family person' instead of 'family members', and 'spent to brought it' instead of 'spent to purchase it'. The repetition of basic vocabulary like 'reason' and 'building' also limits the score. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, and avoid repeating the same words throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they often contain grammatical errors, such as 'they help to give stronger connection' (missing article) and 'residents feel proud to living' (incorrect verb form). There are also frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, such as 'contact with local government' and 'exploring about the building'. These errors are frequent and occasionally make the meaning slightly difficult to follow. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures and proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will significantly improve your score.
