Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the interest in house history and the methods for researching it. The ideas are relevant, such as curiosity and checking structural integrity, and the research methods provided (government records, neighbors, internet) are practical. However, the development is somewhat basic. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or deeper explanations. For instance, when mentioning 'cultural importance,' you could briefly explain how a building might reflect a specific architectural era. The conclusion introduces a new point about protecting features, which is good, but it would be better integrated into the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each prompt question, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices like 'First,' 'Second,' and 'Finally' to sequence your ideas. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and there are issues with punctuation and spacing, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'live. There', 'curiosity.people'). Improving the use of more sophisticated linking words and ensuring consistent punctuation would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'property records,' 'historical,' and 'cultural importance.' However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'are' instead of 'or' (e.g., 'historical are cultural'), 'privous' instead of 'previous,' 'interenet' instead of 'internet,' and 'reasearch' instead of 'research.' These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate a wider range of less common lexical items to demonstrate more flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. For example, 'the house are building' should be 'the house or building,' and 'the interenet can also be useful' is missing a clear subject-verb connection in some contexts. Additionally, there are several instances where words are run together due to missing spaces. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
