Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for interest in historical buildings and methods for researching them. However, the development is limited. The reasons provided—cultural connection and parental education—are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. The explanation of 'fights and attacks' is vague and does not clearly link to the history of a specific house or building. The methods suggested, such as using 'google' or 'chatGPT', are relevant but lack detail. To improve, you should provide more specific examples or elaborate on how these resources actually help uncover historical data, such as archives or public records.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow between sentences is often mechanical. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'Firstly', but the internal logic within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed. For example, the transition from discussing cultural value to 'fights and attacks' is abrupt and confusing. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'this' without a clear antecedent. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence logically follows the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'old house and building', which appears multiple times. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'conducted in past years' instead of 'occurred in the past'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to history and research, such as 'architectural heritage', 'genealogical records', or 'preservation', and avoid repeating the same basic nouns throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('most of individuals day by day becoming'), article usage, and tense consistency ('parent want to teach'). Sentence structures are mostly simple or contain errors when you attempt complex constructions. For instance, 'that is this reason our culture show a lot of change' is grammatically incorrect and difficult to follow. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring correct verb forms, and proofreading for punctuation errors, particularly the misuse of full stops where commas should be used.
