Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is believed by some that the aim of academic education is to train people to support to society. Others argue that the objective of education is to accomplish personal ambition. In my opinion, both views equally important.
On the one hand, well-educated people significantly contribute to the economy because they can create ideas, technology, and business ideas that can promote social development. In addition, education helps people understand social responsibilities such as following rules and respecting others. For example, well-educated person population can help to reduce crime in society and increase cooperation between people. As a result, society becomes stable and developed. On the other hand, education plays a crucial role in individual lives in different ways. Firstly, it gives people knowledge, skills that help to find better job opportunities. For example, students who study engineering or medicine can earn higher salary and have better career opportunities. Secondly, education can increase personal confidence and ability to solve problems. This means they can achieve their goals easily. Therefore, it is clear that education is essential for personal development.
In conclusion, an educated population can benefit not only itself but also society as a whole.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for reasons why people research the history of their homes and how they can conduct this research. Instead, the essay discusses the purpose of academic education. Because the response fails to address any part of the actual task, it receives a low score. Additionally, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which further impacts the score as the ideas are not developed in relation to the prompt provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'In addition,' and 'Firstly' are used to link ideas. However, because the content is entirely irrelevant to the prompt, the logical progression does not serve the purpose of the task. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the lack of relevance to the topic makes the overall coherence ineffective in the context of an IELTS writing assessment.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally accurate and appropriate for an academic context, such as 'significantly contribute,' 'social responsibilities,' and 'crucial role.' However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. While the words are used correctly, they do not demonstrate the flexibility or precision required for higher bands. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors, but the vocabulary is not applied to the correct subject matter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'both views equally important' (missing verb 'are') and 'well-educated person population' (awkward phrasing). Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear. The control of grammar is sufficient for basic communication, but the lack of complex structure variety and the presence of persistent minor errors limit the score.
