Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in building history and methods for research. However, the development is somewhat repetitive. For example, the reasons provided (curiosity about previous owners and age) are restated in the second paragraph without significant expansion. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a full summary of the ideas. While the main points are relevant, the lack of depth and the unfinished nature of the essay limit the score. To improve, ensure each reason is supported by a specific example or a more detailed explanation, and always complete the final paragraph.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'Through this' is used to connect ideas about ownership to the age of the building, which is a bit abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'If that building is culturally or historically important then it can be evident from web.' The abrupt ending of the essay significantly disrupts the overall flow and coherence of the final paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'residence building' instead of 'residential building' or 'property', and 'hustle' used incorrectly (likely meaning 'hassle'). The range of vocabulary is limited, relying on basic terms like 'find out', 'know', and 'research'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise collocations and topic-specific terminology, such as 'architectural heritage', 'archival records', or 'genealogical research', and ensure words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the eagerness... become progressively common' (subject-verb agreement error), 'They want to be familiarize' (incorrect verb form), and 'asking from the previous owner' (preposition error). Punctuation is generally functional, but the incomplete final sentence demonstrates a lack of control over sentence structure. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb forms after modal verbs, and ensure that complex sentences are constructed with accurate grammatical links.
