Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in building history and methods for research. The ideas are relevant, such as curiosity about previous occupants and the use of archives or local knowledge. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation of why people research property history before buying is brief and could be better supported with more specific examples. While the task is fully addressed, the depth of analysis is limited, which prevents it from reaching the higher bands. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not add new insight.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each prompt question, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition', 'Another reason', and 'For example'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. There are also minor issues with punctuation and sentence structure that occasionally disrupt the flow, such as the fragmented sentence in the conclusion: '...from a long time. and also conversations...'. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the management of cohesion could be more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'archives', 'historical databases', and 'significance'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing or word choice, such as 'accommodation they live in' (instead of 'residence' or 'property') and 'important events have been taken place' (incorrect verb form). To improve, the student should focus on more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and prepositions. Examples include 'have been taken place' (should be 'have taken place'), 'research a history' (should be 'research the history'), and 'person lived there' (should be 'people who lived there'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points.
