In some countries, more and more people are becoming interested in finding out about the history of the house or building they live in.

What are the reasons for this?

How can people research this?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this era, everyone wants to purchase a built house or flat, because of their busy lives. They do not want to waste time on building new homes. However, in many countries many people are interested in finding out about the history of the house and building they live in.

There are several reasons why people want to find out the history of their house or building. To begin with, many people think that the construction will survive the natural hazards like Earthquake or not? They want to know because of their safety, also it is hard for people to buy or build another house. Recently, in the JAPAN, a resident of building researched about the building and he found that base of the building is losing strength every year, because of the water licking. He reported to building management to avoid a such damage. Moreover, in many areas crimes like robbery, killing and kidnaping are increased. If person knows about it, then he will choose other place to live. For example, in MAXICO one person did not purchase home because of safety issues, which he got on the lowest price.

There are some ways, by using them people can research about their building or house. To start with, they can ask the owner or old residents of the building, why they left or what is the purpose of sell. What is more, there are many websites, which provides crucial information about the building. Last but not least, they can hire a professional civil engineer to check the quality of the building and check the police record for any illegal activity.

In conclusion, people do research about their building because of safety issues, weather it is natural or from people. There are some ways like asking old tenants, verify with local people and checking police records.
