Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for interest in building history and methods for research. However, the development of ideas is limited. The claim that people research history to 'become famous' is not well-supported or logical in the context of general public interest. The example of the Taj Mahal is slightly off-topic as it is a monument rather than a residential building. The explanation regarding civil engineers is more relevant but remains brief. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed, realistic explanations and ensure your examples directly support your main points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is basic and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'due to this' is used multiple times). Some transitions are abrupt, such as the start of the second paragraph, which lacks a smooth introduction to the topic. While the logical flow is generally maintained, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the somewhat simplistic sentence structure limit the overall coherence of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'find out', 'get knowledge', and 'things'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'make their knowledge wider' (should be 'expand their knowledge') and 'in modern era' (should be 'in the modern era'). To improve, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to architecture, historical preservation, and research methodology, and work on using collocations more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include missing articles ('on internet', 'in modern era'), subject-verb agreement errors ('Taj mahal is built'), and awkward phrasing ('the reasons why people prefer to find out the history behind the house and builing'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band score.
