Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for interest in building history and methods for research. However, the development of these ideas is limited and often repetitive. For example, the argument regarding 'safety' is mentioned multiple times without clear elaboration, and the 'fame' argument is somewhat illogical and underdeveloped. The response lacks a clear position or a sophisticated exploration of the topic, resulting in a superficial treatment of the prompt. The ideas are present but lack the depth required for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and often incorrect way, such as 'In this regards' and 'To commence with'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. For instance, the transition between the reasons for research and the methods of research is abrupt. The lack of logical flow between sentences and paragraphs significantly hinders the overall coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic or incorrectly used terms. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'slum down' (likely meaning collapse or fall) and 'history values' (likely meaning historical significance). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. Spelling errors, such as 'oppurtunity', and awkward collocations like 'get name and the popular' further demonstrate a limited control over lexical resources, which occasionally impedes the reader's understanding.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect clarity. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('people becoming interest', 'everyone have know'), article usage, and sentence structure. Complex sentence attempts are often faulty, leading to run-on sentences or fragmented thoughts. For example, 'Because they don't know the marble or material for build the house they have insecurities to live' is grammatically incorrect and confusing. The range of structures is limited, and the high frequency of errors makes the text difficult to read at times.
