This essay will discuss the main reasons for this interest and explain how people can research the history of their homes.
To begin with, there are several reasons why individuals are interested in finding out the history of their houses. Firstly, people are curious to learn more about their buildings because this information can help them understand the background of the property before renovating or developing it. Secondly, knowing the history of a building can help people understand their surroundings and make better decisions about how to use the property. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for interest in building history and methods for research. The ideas are relevant and logically presented. However, the development is somewhat brief. For instance, the reasons provided—renovation planning and understanding surroundings—are clear but could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. To improve, ensure that each body paragraph provides a more detailed exploration of the ideas to demonstrate a more thorough engagement with the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the 'why' to the 'how'. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. The flow is smooth, and the relationship between sentences is generally clear, making the text easy to follow throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate and generally appropriate for the task. You use terms like 'renovating', 'historical or cultural value', and 'local heritage' correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited and lacks the sophistication or 'less common' lexical items that would characterize a higher band. There is also a minor error in 'each and every details', where the noun should be singular ('detail'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary to demonstrate greater flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and error-free, which ensures that communication is never impeded. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'records which provides' (should be 'provide' to agree with the plural 'records'). While the control of grammar is generally good, the range of complex structures is somewhat limited. To achieve a higher score, aim to incorporate a greater variety of complex grammatical forms, such as conditional sentences or passive voice constructions, while maintaining the current level of accuracy.
