Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in house history and methods for researching it. However, the development of ideas is limited. For instance, the claim that knowing a house's history makes it 'safe' is not clearly explained or logically connected to the research process. The points regarding grandparents and property value are mentioned but lack sufficient elaboration or specific examples to fully satisfy the requirements for a higher band. The essay remains somewhat superficial, and the conclusion is repetitive rather than summarizing the main points effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'Beside' is used incorrectly as a transition, and 'internet side' is an unnatural way to refer to online resources. While there is a logical progression from reasons to methods, the flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'For example, old maps and old documents may be found them in governments offices,' where the pronoun usage is confusing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. The student relies on basic terms and struggles with collocations. Phrases like 'internet side' and 'governments office' are non-standard. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'senior citizens' and 'predominant,' but these are occasionally used in contexts that feel slightly unnatural. The range of vocabulary is just adequate to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher score. Spelling is generally accurate, but word choice errors are frequent enough to be noticeable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the complex ones are frequently marred by errors. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'who was lived there') and article usage. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect comma usage. Many sentences are grammatically fragmented or awkward, such as 'When know the past of their house.they get information how it was build.' These errors occur throughout the text and occasionally impede the reader's ability to grasp the intended meaning immediately.
