Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development is quite limited and occasionally unclear. While you identify reasons such as financial security and astrology, the explanation of 'how' people research this is largely missing or conflated with the reasons. For example, you mention checking loan details, but the process of researching history (e.g., public records, archives, or local libraries) is not explored. The ideas are repetitive, and the conclusion does not effectively summarize the main points. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a distinct idea and provides clear, logical steps for the 'how' part of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While you use some cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'Furthermore', they are often used mechanically or incorrectly, such as 'The main reason for this that even today'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the logic between sentences. For instance, the transition between discussing astrology and criminal history is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one will significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'house' and 'building'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'intentionally sale their house' instead of 'sell' and 'far way that location' instead of 'far away from that location'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary related to real estate, historical research, and property ownership, while paying closer attention to correct word forms and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence structure. For example, 'before purchase new house' should be 'before purchasing a new house', and 'they interested to know' is missing the verb 'are'. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, and the misuse of tenses (e.g., 'after bought house') makes the text difficult to parse. You should focus on mastering basic sentence structures, specifically the use of gerunds after prepositions and correct verb tense consistency, before attempting more complex structures.
