Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people from different countries have started tracing the past information of there homes or residence blocks they live in. This is primarily because people are very curious to unknown facts and some individuals find this as one of their favourite pastimes. They can explore this more by reading more related information and comparing the same with existing findings.

One of the strongest reasons for their exploration is curiosity. As human beings are by nature inquisitive, this characteristic can be vividly observed regarding an interesting subject such as history of our houses. Thus, they are becoming increasingly passionate to know more about the historical advancement or development of our past accomodation. Through this they actually try to reveal untold stories or events, which have not already been discovered. Another compelling cause of such interest is that some people have taken such discovery as one of their hobbies. As a result, their passion for knowing about buildings, which has an inspiration from previous rullers or landlords, has actually increased has a pastime. Eagerness to know more about european-inspired buildings, for instance, has been a hobby for many historians.

In practice, there are many ways to experiment such activity. Reading related materials, such as history books, journal articles or old diaries containing the past records can be a handy way. Additionally, comparing present information of a house or cottage with the previous findings would have been a more scientific formula to conduct research. Consequently, for future needs, the compared information can be presented in a scientifically approved format follwed for reknowned journals or magazines.

In conclusion, people have taken learning about their places as a hobby and their inquisitivity has also aided this. However, extensive study and an organised presentation of the findings of such study can enhance their research.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest and methods for research. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the reasons provided—curiosity and hobbies—are mentioned but not deeply explored or supported with concrete, real-world examples. The explanation of research methods is also quite generic, focusing on reading and comparing information without detailing specific, practical steps like visiting archives or using digital databases. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, illustrative examples to support your arguments, ensuring that the 'how' part of the prompt is answered with more depth and practical detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Another compelling cause' and 'In practice', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'Through this they actually try to reveal...' and '...has actually increased has a pastime.' Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between 'previous rullers' and the interest in buildings is slightly muddled. Improving the variety and natural flow of your linking words would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'inquisitive', 'compelling', and 'accommodate'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and minor errors, such as 'past information of there homes' (should be 'their'), 'rullers' (spelling error: 'rulers'), and 'follwed for reknowned' (spelling errors: 'followed', 'renowned'). The phrase 'experiment such activity' is also not a natural collocation. To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure you proofread for spelling and common word-choice errors, as these occasionally distract from the clarity of your message.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. There are several grammatical slips throughout the text, such as 'curious to unknown facts' (should be 'curious about'), 'has an inspiration' (should be 'is inspired by'), and 'has actually increased has a pastime' (incorrect preposition/verb usage). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, work on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Focusing on sentence variety while ensuring accuracy in complex structures will help you achieve a higher band score.
