Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest and methods of research. The ideas are relevant, such as curiosity, property value, and the use of government records or neighbors. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about 'famous people' is a bit repetitive and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or logical explanations. For example, instead of just mentioning 'property value,' you could explain how historical status might influence market demand or preservation grants. Overall, the response is clear and fulfills the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use basic cohesive devices like 'One major reason,' 'Another reason,' and 'Firstly.' While these are effective, the flow between sentences can sometimes feel a bit mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though there are minor issues with punctuation and sentence structure that occasionally disrupt the flow. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your transitions between ideas are more sophisticated to create a smoother, more natural progression of thought throughout the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'renovation,' 'property value,' and 'archives.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'who build this house' (should be 'built') and 'provide many information' (should be 'much information'). Additionally, there is some repetition of basic words like 'house' and 'reason.' To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations, and pay closer attention to the grammatical form of the words you choose to ensure they fit the context of your sentences accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'where they are live in' (should be 'where they live'), 'who build this house' (should be 'who built'), and 'the history off their home' (should be 'of'). There are also issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'a famous people' (should be 'famous people'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
