Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the essay attempts to address the two parts of the prompt—reasons for researching property history and methods of research—the ideas are underdeveloped and lack depth. The focus shifts toward general property investment rather than the specific interest in the 'history' of a building. The arguments are repetitive and lack specific examples or detailed explanations, leading to a superficial treatment of the topic. To improve, you must expand on your points with concrete examples and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for full task development.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the reasons for researching property and the methods of research is abrupt. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as 'To summarize this' which does not effectively synthesize the preceding points. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with the use of 'there' instead of 'their'. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear topic sentence and supporting evidence, making the flow of ideas disjointed.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, often relying on basic terms like 'house', 'building', and 'property'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'hard earned property in there native towns' and 'life of construction'. The misuse of 'there' instead of 'their' occurs multiple times, indicating a lack of control over basic lexical items. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to real estate, historical research, and urban development, and pay closer attention to word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'The person who moving' instead of 'The person who is moving'. Sentence structures are largely simple or contain errors when attempting complex forms. Punctuation is inconsistent, and there is a persistent confusion between 'there', 'their', and 'they are'. The lack of error-free sentences makes it difficult to demonstrate a range of structures. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips is essential for improvement.
