Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in building history and methods for research. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the link between astrology and home history is not clearly explained, making the argument feel slightly disjointed. While the response covers the requirements, the ideas lack depth and specific examples, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. The points regarding property value and architecture are more relevant, but they could have been expanded with more concrete detail to fully satisfy the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central topic. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'To sum up' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly hampered by awkward phrasing, such as 'Because of that they can research about direction of home'. Overall, the structure is coherent, but the use of cohesive devices could be more natural and varied.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks sophistication. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'evolving fascinated to searching' instead of 'becoming fascinated with researching', and 'numerous individuals has very curious' instead of 'are very curious'. While the meaning is generally clear, the vocabulary is repetitive and lacks the precision required for higher bands. The student attempts to use topic-specific language like 'architecture' and 'heritage', but these are not always integrated smoothly into the sentences.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('numerous individuals has'), incorrect preposition usage, and missing articles ('in modern era', 'use online platform'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent and occur throughout the text. The student struggles with tense consistency and word order, which limits the overall accuracy. To improve, the student should focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and article usage.
