Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to address the prompt effectively. The task asks for reasons why people research the history of their homes and how they can do so. Instead, the essay discusses the affordability of housing and suggests that people should buy newly constructed homes. This is a significant misunderstanding of the topic. The ideas provided are irrelevant to the prompt, and the essay does not answer the specific questions asked. Consequently, the response is largely off-topic, which severely limits the achievement of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak because the content does not follow the prompt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'In conclusion', but they are often used mechanically or inappropriately given the lack of relevant content. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between ideas is disjointed. While there is an attempt to structure the essay, the lack of a clear, relevant argument makes the overall flow difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'finding very hard these days' and 'give it to citizen on a fiance'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and the misuse of words often impedes the reader's understanding. The student relies on basic, everyday language, and there is no evidence of an attempt to use less common or more precise lexical items appropriate for an academic task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that often distort meaning. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('everyone have different point of view'), sentence fragments ('Is the house is renovated or not'), and incorrect verb tenses. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with frequent errors in punctuation and syntax. These errors are pervasive and make the text difficult to read, indicating a lack of control over basic grammatical structures.
