Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in house history and methods for researching it. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the reasons provided—such as feeling 'connected'—are mentioned but not deeply explored. The explanation of research methods is also quite basic, listing sources like libraries and the internet without explaining how these tools are effectively utilized. To improve, you should provide more specific examples or elaborate on the 'why' behind these trends to reach a higher band. The position is clear, but the overall depth of the argument remains limited.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'Moreover', 'In addition', 'After that'). There are instances where the logical flow is slightly hindered by awkward phrasing, such as the abrupt transition in the second paragraph starting with 'However'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the concluding paragraph is incomplete and lacks a proper summary of the main points. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'old', and 'places'. There are also several word-choice errors, such as 'ample countries' (instead of 'many countries') and 'masses' (which is not appropriate in this context). Spelling errors, such as 'Altought', 'libraies', and 'reasearch', occur throughout the text. To improve, focus on learning collocations related to history and property, and proofread carefully to eliminate basic spelling mistakes that distract the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentences, but grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors with articles (e.g., 'the history of the house', 'the internet'), subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'a house may built'), and missing auxiliary verbs. Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent spacing around commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and ensuring verbs are correctly conjugated will significantly improve your score.
