Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for interest in house history and methods for research. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the reasons provided—curiosity and cultural significance—are mentioned but not deeply explored or supported with specific, convincing examples. The mention of 'visiting ancestors' homes' is a good attempt at an example, but the explanation remains brief. To achieve a higher band, you should expand on your points by explaining the 'why' and 'how' in greater detail, ensuring that your arguments are fully developed rather than just listed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'First and foremost', 'Apart from that', and 'In the first place' to signal transitions. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences is slightly disjointed, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between the general interest in history and the specific example of visiting ancestors' homes feels abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between ideas would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on some informal or repetitive phrasing, such as 'folks' and 'excessive amount of knowledge'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'indigenous adminstration building' (likely meaning local government office) and 'engaging into past history'. While your meaning is clear throughout, the lack of more sophisticated or academic vocabulary limits your score. Try to incorporate more precise terminology related to historical research and property records to demonstrate a wider range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include missing articles (e.g., 'in history of their home'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'they know encounter with the history'). There are also some punctuation and sentence boundary issues, such as the run-on sentence in the third paragraph: 'individuals can ask previous owner individuals can obtain details...'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
