Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development is limited. While you identify reasons such as understanding construction challenges and material sustainability, the explanations are repetitive and lack depth. For example, the explanation of 'why' people research is somewhat circular. The second part of the prompt regarding 'how' is addressed by suggesting the hiring of architects, but this is a narrow approach that ignores common methods like public archives, historical societies, or online databases. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the points made. To improve, ensure each reason is supported by a concrete example or a more detailed explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'Another reason is' and 'Then'. Some transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and the logical progression within paragraphs is hindered by repetitive phrasing. For instance, the transition from discussing construction materials to hiring architects lacks a smooth bridge. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'good materials' and 'intelligent architects' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'struggle for making house' and 'remained to the specific time'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'architectural heritage', 'structural integrity', or 'archival research', and ensure that words are used in their correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include missing articles ('the' house), incorrect verb forms ('owner of the house hire'), and awkward phrasing ('what are the requirements for the constructing home'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a lack of control over more complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would help improve your accuracy.
