Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the interest in building history and methods of research. However, the development of these ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments regarding 'forefathers' and 'hardworking' are somewhat narrow and lack broader societal context, such as architectural preservation or historical curiosity. The ideas are presented in a circular manner, particularly in the second body paragraph, which focuses more on the concept of building a new house rather than researching the history of an existing one. To improve, you should broaden your scope to include diverse reasons and more practical, varied research methods.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often unclear. Cohesive devices are used, but they are frequently repetitive or mechanical, such as the constant use of 'they' and 'because'. The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, and the logical flow is hindered by the repetitive nature of the arguments. For example, the link between 'hearing from parents' and 'deciding to make a new house' is not clearly connected to the task of researching building history. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, distinct focus would significantly enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas. Phrases like 'more and more interested', 'hardworking', and 'get their house' are used repeatedly throughout the text. There is little attempt to use less common lexical items or idiomatic language. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to history, architecture, and research methods, and avoid repeating the same basic adjectives and verbs. Synonyms and more precise terminology would help to make your writing more engaging and accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. There are issues with article usage ('the history of house'), subject-verb agreement ('They are wanted to'), and awkward phrasing ('searching out about'). The sentence structures are predominantly simple or repetitive, with limited use of complex structures. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence variety and proofreading for basic errors like tense consistency and prepositions will be beneficial.
