Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people from other countries are eager to learn more about the history of the place they live in. In my opinion, people are curious to learn about the origin of their place. As they would look for information by reading articles from the library or internet.
One major reason is that people are naturally curious about things, like they are more likely to learn more about the history of the place they live in so that they have a better understanding of how their house develops over the years as to how it affects their daily life. From this, informed people will feel at ease or attain a peace of mind living in their area especially when they learn interesting and good things about their place’s history. For example, a new resident of a subdivision would like to know everything about the background of the place in order to check whether this person will enjoy his stay and feel at peace staying in the subdivision. Therefore, people are so interested to dig deeper into the history of their place as they want to be knowledgeable enough about their place and how it impacts them .
People look for information from many different sources. Most people read an article or a book from the library and internet. People like to read books in the library because most details they can get are accurate and facts. Furthermore, most people these days tend to get information on the internet as it is accessible and convenient. In fact, people search ideas and information easily on different websites such as google and some of them are well made and facts. For example, a student has an assignment on the history of the house they live in. In order for the student to gather effective and accurate data, this student looks through effective tools such as going to the library and using the internet to seek more information and compare it. As a result, most people rely on traditional places to gather data like libraries and look for information with the use of developing tools such as the internet.
In conclusion, people across the world are interested to learn about the history of the place they live in as they are curious to learn information about the place and how it impacts them. By collecting data and information, people use different ways like going to the library or using the internet.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for interest in building history and the methods for research. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the explanation of why people are curious is circular, stating they are curious because they want to understand the history. The examples provided, such as the student assignment, are a bit generic and do not fully explore the depth of the topic. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced reasons, such as the preservation of cultural heritage or the impact of historical architecture on property value, and offer more specific research methods like visiting local archives or interviewing long-term residents.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the reasons, then the methods, and finally the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Furthermore' and 'In fact' are used, but the transitions between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'this' to refer to broad concepts. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'good things', 'different sources', and 'effective tools'. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but it is limited. To improve, you should incorporate more sophisticated collocations and academic vocabulary related to history and research. For example, instead of 'dig deeper', you could use 'conduct in-depth investigations'. Additionally, ensure that word choices are precise; for instance, 'facts' is a noun, so saying 'some of them are... facts' is grammatically incorrect; 'factual' would be the appropriate adjective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'house develops' instead of 'house has developed'), incorrect article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'as to how it affects their daily life'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing spaces after commas. To improve, focus on mastering complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, and proofread carefully to eliminate basic errors in tense and word form.
