Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for interest in property history and methods for research. However, the development is limited, and the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the depth of the arguments. The ideas are presented but lack sufficient elaboration or specific examples. For instance, the suggestion to 'interrogate locals' is a good point but is not expanded upon with enough detail to fully satisfy the task requirements. The position is clear, but the overall brevity prevents a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'noth only this' is grammatically incorrect and awkward. While there is a logical progression from the reasons to the research methods, the flow is frequently interrupted by errors in sentence structure and linking phrases. Paragraphing is present, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs needs more variety and precision to achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'eractic' (erratic), 'anyonous' (anonymous/various), 'purcasing' (purchasing), and 'crimanal' (criminal). Additionally, word choice is sometimes imprecise, such as using 'pupils' to refer to property buyers, which is contextually incorrect. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the frequent spelling mistakes occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors. Examples include 'The essay present' (subject-verb agreement), 'People should to atleast a brief interogation' (missing verb), and 'Clients are become more smart' (incorrect tense/verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high density of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher level of accuracy.
